Specters Concept for Dracula

Done for my Theater Costume Design class. The assignment is Dracula.

This is a little sketchy, but it proves to me the idea works. In the Dracula play we're doing there are eight "specters" who essentially narrate the story...occasionally taking the part of townspeople, etc. My idea for them was to have the specters scattered around the stage in death poses when the audience enters the theater. Each specter has its own costume portraying a death. (sword in the head, arrow in eye, stabbed in back, shot to death)...and it's all gray with a bit of black. All of it. They also wear gray makeup. All the blood from their injuries is black and the weapons in their bodies are gray as well.
I think it gives them a very ghostly appearance, and also...they can more easily travel around the stage with the main characters and set focus on the more colorful alive characters..and they can move props/etc between scenes. When the show opens, after the brides and Dracula appear briefly and leave, the corpses on stage start to come to life to tell Renfield's story.
Very mime-ish. These are almost like clowns...but they take the dialogue very seriously even though they're...basically walking corpses...
